This is
the latest offering by Mary Beth and features a much fuller,
more developed adult contemporary sound than she's had in the
past. Great percussion enhances the amazing Fazioli Piano MB
used as a base instrument for this album, and rock guitar, a
hammond B3 organ, and cellos exemplify the range of sound filling
out the rest of the musical spectrum. Fourteen songs comprise
the hour-long album of Lilith-oriented ballads and rock tunes.
Lyrics to all songs included. (Artist
touchstone -- similar to Natalie Merchant, Sarah McLachlan,
Fiona Apple.) |
After
many impassioned emails and letters came in, Mary Beth decided
she had to find a way to make some of the special songs and
covers that she's recorded in the last year available to fans.
Two songs in particular, covers of "Daydream Believer"
and "Tracks of My Tears," appeared on Dawson's Creek and inspired
people to write in. These songs, along with two tracks
from Supernatural ("Hold On" and "Better Than Anyone"), form
the core of the 10 song sampler of mostly acoustic piano/vocal
tracks. |
A folky-jazz
seasonal album, Snowed In plays with winter themes like the
pleasures of being "snowed in", the meloncholy quiet of a broken-hearted
holiday, and the endless struggle between skiers and snugglers
on the very fluffiest powder day.... Snowed In features a more
trio-oriented set up, with drums, bass, piano and occasional
sax or guitar backing MB's silky vocal. A vintage theme vibrates
through the album, even to the photos and the microphones used
-- old telefunket beauties. Lyrics included. (Artist
touchstone -- similar to Diana Krall, Natalie Cole, a female
Harry Connick, Jr.) |
MB's debut
album, Something Real highlights a more acoustic sound with
lots of piano and vocal tracks and a folk center. Rhythm guitar
and auxiliary percussion rounds out the softer sounds of this
heartfelt album. (Artist touchstone --
similar to Joni Mitchell, Catie Curtis, Carol King.)
